Dhikala

The most sought after zone of Corbett National Park for wildlife safari and peaceful forest lodging, Dhikala is situated at the edge of the picturesque Patli Dun Valley. The serpentine river Ramganga flows here in musical rhythm adds grace to its scenic views. This picturesque wildlife zone is accessible via Ramnagar and located in the middle of Corbett overlooking Ramganga Reservoir. Dhikala Forest Rest house is a wonderful accommodation found in the heart of the jungle where multiple varieties of animals like chital and elephant are often found grazing. The forest rest house is accessible via Dhangari Gate which is around 19km from Ramnagar. However, Dhikala Tourist Complex is around 32 km from Dhangari Gate. As the rest house is quite far from the gate and located amidst dense forest, while driving towards the accommodation, you can sight many species of wildlife roaming nearby the dense woods. During monsoon season Dhikala remains closed, while it remains open to the public from mid November to mid June.

Popular Fishes in Corbett

Corbett National park is home of many aquatic species and fishes are one of important of them. The most celebrated among them is the mahseer fish, with other known ones being the goonch fish, and several species of carps and loaches. Anglers from around the world come to Corbett in search of these fish.

What to expect in Dhikala:

The best part of travelling to Dhikala Zone is the chances of witnessing the big cats. One can also spot animals like big cats, wild boar, python, deer, elephants, and herds of chitals. Get some close shots of your favourite animals without disturbing their natural movements. Apart from wildlife sighting, Dhikala also turns out to be a delight for the bird lovers. The popular species of birds available in Dhikala are sprey, Peregrine Falcon, Red-Headed Vulture, Cinereous Vulture, Pied Harrier, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Black Francolin, Slaty-Headed Parakeet, Tawny Pipit, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Emerald Dove and Jungle Bush Quai etc.

Safaris Available:

To make the trip to Dhikala Zone memorable both canter safari and elephant safari are available. There are two safaris in a day i.e. once in the morning and another in the evening. However, the safari timing may differ from season to season.

Dhikala Forest Lodge:

Dhikala Forest Lodge presents an excellent riverside view. It is around 50km from the Dhangari Gate. Delicious vegetarian cuisines are served to the guests. To ensure the safety of the guests, the lodge is protected with electric fencing. The chirping of birds and the cosy breeze blowing through the open windows will make feel refreshed.

Things to remember in Dhikala:

No private vehicles are allowed inside the zone unless one has got permission from forest authorities. Gypsies are allowed to enter only if one has booked any forest lodge, like the main Dhikala Forest Lodge, or has made arrangements in nearby forest guest houses. However if one has not booked any accommodation in any of the forest lodges, s/he can explore the park only through a canter safari

How to Reach:

Dhikala can be accessed by the Dhangadi Gate, located in Ramnagar. However to reach Ramnagar, one can go for any of the below mentioned options:

By Air: Phoolbagh in Pantnagar is the nearest airport to Corbett National Park.

By Train: Ramnagar Railway Station is the nearest rail head to Dhikala. One needs to hire private vehicles to reach here from the railway station.

By Road: Dhikala is 51 km from Ramnagar and 300km from Delhi. Tourists travelling from Delhi can board buses from Anand Vihar Bus Stop which will take them to Ramnagar. Hire local buses or taxi to reach Dhikala.
