While in Corbett National Park, angling can be one of finest leisure activities to indulge in. During colonial days angling was a very popular pastime with the British and they called it the 'Great Game'. Though both the words fishing and angling are often synonymously used, there lies a difference between the two. Fishing refers to hunting for fish while angling is a leisure activity that involves practice of catching fish using a hook or an angle. Corbett makes a fishing base camp. Coming from high mountains this river passes through the heart of the Park and debouches into the plains at Kalagarh. At Lohachaur, 15-kms north along the River Kosi, good anglers always have a chance of landing the legendary Mahseer, a redoubtable battling River Carp apart from Indian Trout and Goonch. The Golden Mahasheer, a sporting fish, is found in a large numbers in Kosi & Ramganga River. The river Ramganga and Kosi are the best angling sites since the days of the British. The 24 km of exclusive fishing beat that flows in the grasslands of the Corbett Tiger Reserve is enough to give a very pleasant three to eight days angling tours, but first some important information on angling season and the best time.
